Puccini's most famous romantic opera, Madame Butterfly, is performed by the New Orleans Opera. The production stars Maria Kanyova in the title role as Cio-Cio San and Bryan Hymel as B. F. Pinkerton.

Madame Butterfly is the heartbreaking tale of Cio-Cio San, a beautiful young Japanese girl who gives up her heart and her heritage for an American sailor, only to be abandoned and betrayed.
